But there is something sort of magical about the winter, isn't there? Everything becomes very peaceful during and after snowfall. Cuddling up to your honey in front of the fire with netflix is something exclusive to the colder months. The ground glitters in ice crystals and evergreens take center stage as the prolific warriors of winter.
Weddings are often neglected during the winter months, because of the temperature, outdoor receptions are nearly impossible, ice on the roads and harrowing weather has the possibility of restricting travel for out of town guests. I get it, it's a big risk and with the popularity of rustic country weddings in 2014, many brides can't envision their perfect day when the trees are dead and sunshine seems like a luxury. But there is so much you can do with a winter wedding to make it absolutely magical. There is a certain romance of winter that you cannot get with all of the other seasons. Not to mention, with not much competition, you're less likely to have double booked guests. Because winter is the slow season, most venues and vendors have discounted rates between April and October and you can get way more bang for your buck than you could if you decided to get hitched during peak season.
I've been pinning some of my favorite winter wedding inspiration that may have you in the mood to say "I do" in a theme that would make Anna and Elsa proud.
The Venue
Winter weddings have a multitude of options ranging from formal to rustic. Renting a ski chalet for a smaller guest list is a beautiful way to incorporate local activities into your special day and spend time with the ones you love in a more casual setting. Large event halls, Inns and wineries all operate during the winter months and have beautiful settings such as the first picture.
I love keeping the color palette simple in decor to let the natural beauty of the landscape tie in with the decor. Evening ceremonies in the winter can be incredibly magical, lining the aisle with lanterns and saying vows with the backdrop of a giant stone fireplace.
Who says winter white is the only option for weddings though? Adding bright pink flowers brings warmth and life to an indoor setting and string lights draped across takes the room from ceremony to reception in a flash.
Flowers
I love a beautifully vibrant bouquet just as much as the next gal, but subdued tones accented by greys and frosted greens are some of my most favorite floral arrangements.
Not to mention the incredibly unique pinecone bouquet that adds the perfect amount of inexpensive whimsy.
Deeper shades of plum are also perfect for warming up a winter ceremony and look fantastic next to muted, hushed tones.
Attire
Can we talk about tartan for a minute? There is literally no better season to incorporate this gorgeous, cozy pattern into than winter. It's a very english countryside look and one that I do very much adore.
Now, how fab would it be to get to wear a sweater all day? No shapewear or dieting to fit into any dress you want, throw a cozy shawl or chunky knit sweater over your wedding dress and it is all just part of the ensemble!
What's even more cozy than a sweater on your wedding day? leggings! Yes please! If I could wear leggings or tights every time I put on a dress I would be a happy camper. Not to mention you bridesmaids look so put together and whimsical with their tights and shawls!
The little details
As an event planner, I have to stay with the current trends that a lot of my clients want. Burlap and mason jars were huge in 2014 and still carry their weight into 2015. However, I absolutely love the unusual details that can really make an event unique and personal. How fun would it be to have gloves or scarves as wedding gifts for your guests?
The cheapest and sweetest escort cards I ever did see are these bunches of evergreens tied with tags.
Even though the image above is from a summer wedding, I can see a big roaring fire and baskets of blankets for guests to snuggle up and celebrate.
