I know I really should wait until the incredible Krysta of Krysta Norman Photography gets all of the gorgeous professional shots processed but she previewed with this one and I just couldn't help not sharing it. How good looking is this couple?! Insanely, right? Wait until you see the rest of the shots from their big day! Working on this wedding was so much fun and everything turned out so beautiful. These kids definitely know how to put on a good party!  Here's a sneak peek at a couple insta shots I snapped in between setting up centerpieces and the cocktail hour!

Can't wait to show you the rest!
It isn't uncommon that I absolutely adore the brides that I work with. I have been fortunate enough to have some really awesome ladies come my way and Brianne is absolutely no exception. However it's not every day that I absolutely adore their family and friends that surround them. I got to experience this with Briannes sweet, workhorse family members who worked their butts off the day before and the day of to make her special day all the more special.
Brianne and David got married at Briannes families lake house on Chautauqua lake. I also now know how to spell "Chautauqua" after misspelling it on about a dozen emails, programs and schedules. Just one of the many things I learn every day as a planner.
The always wonderful Stephanie and I drove up to NY on the Wednesday before the wedding to get settled in and put some final touches on some DIY items for the wedding. I love DIY brides so much because it's such a more intimate, involved practice and allows me to really get creative with the styling and little details that make the day special. For this wedding we created a large paper fan and pom pom wall for the cocktail hour, silver and carolina blue centerpieces as a nod to Davids school and simple white yet elegant details for the ceremony such as the silk  cloth draped across the tree branch forming a pseudo-arch that looked similar to sails on a boat. I had so much fun making this beautiful ladies day special, exploring the small towns of Western NY and Northern PA and getting an entirely new perspective on folks up north ; )  All pictures are provided by Debby Morales of Deb & Matt Photo they were the sweetest, most professional people to work with and truly made everything look magical.

Brianne got ready in the lake house and Dave got ready in their sweet neighbor Karen and Petes cottage next door to prevent the bride and groom from seeing each other before she walked down the aisle. We created the aisle with flameless votive candles, faux white rose petals and pew bows on the chairs that doubled as reception seating. When on a budget I can't stress enough how doubling up on your seating use can save you! It ended under the draped fabric arch with a smattering of candles surrounding the couple and the pastor. The ceremony music was brought to us by Briannes friend, an amazing, grammy-award winning harpist which created the dreamiest setting for the couple and their family and friends.

Presenting Mr. and Mrs. Stokes! I admit, I cried a tiny bit as Brianne walked down the aisle. Because of the situation of the houses and Kent, the harpist. I had to signal when David and Brianne were coming down the aisle for the appropriate music. I think because of emotions I ended up waving my arms like a madwoman instead of my simple "double thumbs up" that was agreed upon. But all in all I kept it together. After getting to know Brianne over the past few months I feel like she is a friend and seeing her glowing as she came down on her wonderful sister Noelle's arm turned me into a pile of mush. Trust me it would've done the same to you had you have been there!

One of my favorite parts of this wedding was all of the DIY elements. I brought the burlap runners which were cut from a large piece of fabric and left frayed at the endings to add a lovely rustic element. I painted the mason jars silver and Carolina blue in honor of Daves college. Lanterns were borrowed from a friend and a simple babies breath arrangement was placed in the jars so as not to distract away from the beautiful waterfront setting. All of the greenery?  I brought some boxwood cuttings and the rest were actually pruned from some of the local landscaping! I love getting creative and using what we have around to make add that extra oomph. We actually joked about sneaking over to a local CVS that had the most beautiful white hydrangea blooms and clipping a few for the tables. I didn't actually do this, so you don't have to call the authorities or the mental hospital but I was at about 75% determination before we set the tables!

As the sun set across the water and the evening glow faded into a cool cobalt blue, the day sadly had to come to an end. But the laughter and love felt from all of the family and friends will last forever.

Brianne and Dave, thanks again for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful day. I wish you all the love and happiness you two so deserve in the future.

When I think of perfect weather for events, whether they are indoors or outdoors, bright, mild and clear days always come to mind. However, today was the first day of heavy rain we've had for a while and it made me think of all the panicked brides dealing with bad weather on their special day.
Rain is one of the worst things that can happen on your wedding day, short of your fiancĂ© running off with one of the bridesmaids, a vendor falling through or your sick great aunt Millie deciding to cross over during the cocktail hour. Whoever invented that "rain on your wedding day is good luck" concept definitely gets an A for effort but just like telling someone that those high-waisted jeans are flattering on their figure, we all know it's just a bold-faced lie to make you feel better about mother natures backstabbing treachery.

While I know you may be hyperventilating into a bag about the weather issues at your wedding, keep in mind with the help of your professional event planner your day will still go off without a hitch and can be just as beautiful as you imagined pre-monsoon season. Here are a few things to help keep your sanity in case it does hit the fan.

First things First:
If you're planning on having an outdoor wedding, you must always always always have a rain plan. If you're doing an outdoor wedding and don't plan on having a tent, research it just in case. Always have a tent available on hold if possible so that worst case scenario you're not having to reschedule your entire day.  If you're renting other items from the company that has tents, most likely they will be able to add the tent on a few days before your wedding if the forecast is calling for rain, this is another reason to have an event planner, they will have the rapport with the rental company that may be the make or break deterring factor on whether or not you get a last minute tent!

Backup plan:
If you are using a venue that has an outdoor and indoor space you may want to speak with the venue to find out if your event can be moved indoors. If the venue is not having another event that same day or you have reserved the entire property this may not be an issue. However, be prepared for them to say no. If you had listened to my first point we wouldn't be here.

Get creative:
So it's raining and you can't get a tent and you have no indoor space backup plan for the ceremony or reception.  Let's say 2 days before you realize this and a hurricane is coming, there is nothing you can do about it and the fury of an angry bride cannot overcome mother natures wrath or convince her to go back out to sea where her stupid precipitation is actually wanted. Now it's time to get creative. This is the worst case scenario because you've already placed your deposit on the place and now the entire thing needs to be moved.

One option for you could be to host an umbrella themed ceremony. This will not be comfortable nor will it be easy but if you have a smaller crowd you can run to the store, snatch up as many umbrellas as they have and do the ceremony in the rain. I think this could also be an incredible photo opp as long as you booked a great photographer. The problem is, eating dinner, drinking and dancing in the rain isn't happening unless you go heavy on the 2nd part and your guests are happy to get muddy and gross. Again, what a funny picture but probably not what you want for your special day. If you're able to get your deposit back on venues, vendors, rentals etc. contact your favorite restaurant and see if they can reserve a room for you. Again, this only works if you have less than 100 people and you're gonna spend some coin buying everyone dinner and drinking but no more than what you would have with a catered dinner.

If you have over 100 people, no rain plan, no tent,  no backup plan and no event planner to make a miracle happen it's time to go get eloped and come to terms with the fact that maybe your critical thinking skills aren't as sharp as you thought they were.

A little throwback for this fine sunny day as the temperatures climb above freezing and the snow begins to melt. I'm getting into baby shower mode as next month I'll be throwing a baby shower for my wonderful friend Kristi. I was talking to Janessa yesterday over some nutella hot chocolate and Bear snuggles about the fun rustic yellow, grey and white themed baby shower she threw for our neighbor Ashley and her triplets who are now adorable little balls of cuteness! I wanted to show off some of the adorable decor, yummy food and a couple small details that I think made this day so fun!

Janessa did cute tissue paper pom pons, streamer window treatments and a beautiful tulle table skirt

I made a few yellow, grey and white banners to hang around the dessert table as well as the favor table.

love all of the pops of yellow! I made strawberry cream cheese, salted caramel chocolate and pumpkin spice cupcakes for the event from The Random Bakery.

another shot of the pretty food table that was surrounded by people moments after this picture, people including myself shoving food in my face.

Ashley chose to do bath & body works body wash favors in their Aromatherapy: Energy line. I actually still use this body wash from time to time when I need to wake up a little bit, it has an invigorating orange ginger scent. Each little bottle had a tag that read
"from Ashleys shower to yours"

All of the neighbor girls, myself looking a little boyish and crazy, the beautiful glowing Ashley, Janessa in all of her party planning fabulousness and Allison our always flawless neighbor.

Looking back on the pictures has me in inspirational mode to continue all of the baby shower planning for Kristi's shower in April. Do you know anyone having a baby soon? Are you planning their shower, I would love to see pictures!
Although I just posted about winter weddings and how absolutely gorgeous they can be (and I still stand by that statement) I don't think I'm fooling anyone by pretending I'm not totally in the mood for sunshine and summer. I think if I hadn't gone to Mexico a few weeks back, I would probably still be stuck in the doldrums of winter content with the fact that we are getting more snow this week and I'll just have to save my spring wardrobe for another month.

So it should come as no surprise that I was so struck by this stunning Red & Coral Santa Barbara wedding posted by Inspiredbythis a few days ago. the hot, fiery colors, the bright desert decor and how fun the entire thing looks while maintaining a simple elegance that is so often over-looked by couples wanting to "go big or go home". Inspired by this? I surely am!
